Do you know Amber Riley? You probably do – because she is an actress that plays Mercedes Jones on the hit show Glee on Fox.
I was doing a little searching online to see what causes young people are getting involved in and promoting, and I got wind of this Battle for the Bands competition that both dosomething.org… and VH1 is promoting.
The campaign and competition is to raise awareness of the trouble music programs across the country are facing in terms of funding.
When I saw this, I was immediately interested in more and wanted to share this campaign with others as a part of this month’s YWB spotlight.
I know on a personal level, I am all for music and art programs in school. From the time I picked up the $3 songflute in elementary school, to learning to play other instruments throughout middle and high school, music was a motivator for me to make it through the school day some days. It gave me something to do after school, and I think it is the one language other than English I can actually read or speak!
And I don’t even have to get into all the research that has been done on the connection between music and learning.
