In the past, many organization’s operated with a hierarchy based on age and experience. However, as the playing field began to level with more young adults attaining advanced degrees that were thought to be the equivalent of on the job experience; a leader is no longer automatically qualified based on their age or the time spent doing “a thing.”
A young leader in our society is not only tasked with empowering those younger in age but also with inspiring those older in age and often considered wiser in experience. In order to be successful, a young leader needs to have vision, humility and the ability to listen as much as he/she talks. Vision is needed to guide those they want to lead in a direction they will want to venture. Humility is the key to not getting caught up with the perception of power and the ability to listen allows him/her to learn and grow from those around.
