Commitment vs. Compliance – Your Day at the Office
We go into work everyday and do the job that is required of us. Some of us complete the responsibilities and requirements that we were hired to do. Others go above and beyond in making sure the task is not only complete but correct in presentation, quality, and in some cases durability. This is the employee who thinks of the company policies and foundation when asked to do something. Showing up to work and showing up to get a paycheck can be two different things.
When you take the extra minute or two to excel in everyday tasks in the workplace you are simply making a path to excel in your career. A compliance employee does what is ask of them when it is asked. They tend to do no more or less than what is required. The employee who is committed does what needs to be done and takes the initiative to do it before ever been asked. When you are committed to your work and all of the logistics that it entails, others notice it. Even those who you think aren’t watching.
Commitment always pays off. I recently witnessed a committed co-worker who had been with the company for 5 years be recruited by another large and well known organization. An organization that I’m sure anyone would love to work for. This co-worker wasn’t looking for work. He was very happy where he was. However, his commitment to our organization open a door of opportunity he never saw coming. We were all very happy for him and knew he deserve every penny they offered him!
The next time you walk foot into your office take a minute and think about what it is that you will accomplish today. Think about how committed you are to your career, your employer, your vendors, your customers, and even your co-workers. A committed employee is one who believes in compliance but chooses to excel above it.
