One of the most rewarding things in life is finding your passion and being able to do it for a living. It truly is a great feeling to be excited about going to work in the morning and having a career that doesn’t feel like work.
I know, finding work like this is easier said than done, but it is possible– here’s how you can:
Determine if there’s something you already love to do. Since I was little, one thing I’ve absolutely loved is writing. But for a long time, I didn’t think I could actually make a career out of it. I now know that it is possible. So whatever it is that you’ve always loved doing, know there is probably a way to make it your career.
If you can’t think of anything immediately, jot down some ideas. Additionally, look around for inspiration– at home, online and even the library, which is how I discovered the wonderful world of freelance writing. Also, ask and see what other people’s passions are or get their input. Remember, it’s more likely that you’ll find your true passion if you have several options.
Try it out (but don’t quit your job yet). Put your idea to the test before taking the career leap. When I began freelancing and blogging, I worked in a domestic violence shelter. I didn’t think I would like freelancing initially because it’s not the most stable career in the world, and I crave stability (at least I thought I did). But after trying it for a while, I realized that I loved it. So try your idea as a hobby or side hustle first to determine if it’s what you should be doing. If you’re passionate about it after a few months, that’s probably it.
Research and practice. You need to know as much about your passion as you can. After I discovered freelancing, I searched the web for more info, started studying magazines and reading books. You should do the same: Peruse every website you can, buy books and talk to others. You also have to practice your passion. If you want to make money at it, you need professional skills.
Don’t give up. If you don’t find your passion initially and quit after a couple of days, you won’t succeed. Just keep trying and you will find it. Or maybe you did find your passion, but now you’re not feeling it anymore. Just begin again and discover another one. And if you’ve found your passion but haven’t made a living at it yet, keep on keeping on; whatever your situation, you’ll get there.
Remember success takes work!
