I’m a rock star
I’m a rock star

No, I don’t rock out on stage with a guitar, skinny jeans and goth make up but I am a rock star – in my world.

When I was younger, people would say, “oh, she thinks she’s cute” or “look at her, she thinks she’s so smart.” For a long time, I let what other people were saying about me define the way I saw myself.  I would not dress up because I didn’t want them to think I was doing too much.  I even went as far as not trying my best in school because I didn’t want everyone to know how smart I was.

At some point I realized that I could not let the opinions of others rule my life.  I was not only listening to what they were saying but I was starting to playing their tape over and over in my head.  You know what happens when you do that?  You start to believe that it is true.  I also started to believe, like many other women, that I just couldn’t get along with women.  I thought I was destined to only have male friends.  I still hear women say that today and I feel kind of bad because the power of a sisterhood is a undescribable experience.  My sisterhood is filled with some of the most inspiring, encouraging, devoted and beautiful women.  I would not have it any other way.

I am a rock star.

I am beautiful.

I am kind.

I am caring.

I am smart.

I use the power of positive self talk to keep me uplifted and to uplift others.  You attract in this world what you put out.

There are many children who are confused and experiencing things in their young lives that some of us can not imagine.  They are filtering their negative experiences into the heads of other children because they think gossip, drama and disloyalty are normal.  Unfortunately this behavior is creating little girls like me that shy away from their natural light in fear of shining too brightly.  We have an obligation to not only live our lives like we are rock stars but also to build up our sisterhood and to take time with our little people to help their lights shine so they don’t extinguish someone else’s light.

Live your life like you are rock star!  It doesn’t take a mansion, millions of dollars or expensive material possessions to shine as bright as anyone else.  Happiness should come from within, from the power of positive self talk.

Beautiful post. I too feel so bad for women who don’t know the sisterhood and love of other women. They cause bigger problems in their own lives than any other woman could. I’m fortunate to have 5 sisters and great close women friends who are inspiring, funny, brilliant, kind and supportive. It’s a blessing.

Never should we diminish our light so that others can shine, because truthfully we all can shine and have unique talents that can be a source of inspiration to others, not because we are arrogant enough to think that we are “automatically” inspirations, but because we live authentically and share our stories with the world.

    Thanks for this great reminder.
