Obama 08

One year ago today we the people elected Barack Obama as our 44th president with hopes that he would bring about the change that we so desperately needed.  That change that we thought would happen still hasn’t come.  Yes, the stimulus plan has created over 600,000 jobs but unemployment is still up and in double digits in some states, our troops are still in Iraq, and we still don’t have universal health care.  These are the promises made to us that got him elected.

Now, I do think that he is working on some of these issues diligently and within the next 3 years he’ll be able to solve them but as impatient as we are, we expected him to be our superman and fix everything within the first 30 days.

Come on people.  Have you ever worked fast food or been hired right after someone has been fired?  You have to clean up the mess that was left before you can even think about doing anything else.  We can’t expect him to clean up 8 years worth of financial and political woes and follow through on his agenda in just 1 short year.  It may take him his entire first term just to clean up and another term to start working on his own agenda.  The question is, will we give him that amount of time?

We are an impatient society.  We want everything now, there is no time to waste.  This is why people don’t understand why President Obama has been in office for 1 year and hasn’t passed any resolutions.  Things take time.  He also needs our support.  The same force we put behind him by going  social network (e.g. youtube videos, twitter, facebook status updates or fan pages showing support) crazy and canvasing neighborhoods to get him elected is the same force needed to help pass these resolutions.  It’s as simple as a phone call to your local rep.  I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again and again,  it’s your local politicians that mean the most.  They are the ones that will affect your daily life.  While the president does affect the country as a whole, when crime goes up in your neighborhood or you need a pothole fixed, you can’t just call up the president or send him an email or letter and get it taken care of.

WE have to throw our support behind the President.  He cannot do this alone.  If we don’t then this will be a wasted moment in history and will prove all the naysayers right.  Get out there and tell those that  oppose what’s what.  Make sure you know what you’re talking about though.  There’s nothing worse than a loud mouth that is wrong ( e.g. Rush Limbaugh and 95% of Fox news).

We have to be the change that we want to see.  Stop relying on others to do it for us and do it ourselves.

Peace

Sincere
