“Your friend (insert name here) wants you to follow him/her on Twitter. Join by signing up on www.twitter.com….” Sigh. We’ve all gotten this message. Perhaps we’ve even sent this request out to our own friends, enticing them to join in the twittering fun. Many people are very enthused/amused to follow their friends, family, and celebrities on Twitter. I haven’t joined the craze (yet)…but there is something I’ve been thinking about for quite some time as it relates to this wondrous webworld. I’ve heard so many people talking about what Diddy said on his status update. Where Oprah is going to go next. What Shaq is doing up in the middle of the night. People flock to celebrities twitter pages and leave them messages and tweets telling them how great their new albums are, how much their work/books/tv show is loved, how much their skills are appreciated. Wow…what praise these celebrities receive! What if God had a twitter account?! What if God was on Twitter? What if He sent you a message saying, ‘Come follow Me?’
Would you follow Him on Twitter? Would you praise Him for His good works, for His blessings, for His grace, and for His mercy? Would you frequent His statuses as much as Barack Obama’s? Would you ask Him questions like you do the celebrities you really don’t know?
If God was on Twitter…I wonder would people simply follow Him more in general. Would we spend more time in His Word? Would we heed His advice? Would we try to live better? It’s scary to think that any social networking website such as Twitter or Facebook can consume so much of our time that we almost replace our time with God just to concern ourselves with the latest status updates.
It’s only food for thought. I am not criticizing anyone who is or isn’t on twitter, facebook, etc. I just know that if God was on Twitter..then of course I’d follow His page…but I am truly blessed to have been following Him since I accepted as my personal Savior at the age of 5.
